Happy Thanksgiving

Yesteray was the first holiday since my wife opened her retail store.  When you are thinking about opening a buisness you realize that there is a lot of free time that must be given up, but it doesn’t hit home until you live it.

Yesterday was Thanksgiving.  We went to eat with family and made a few dishes to take with us.  This took up a good portion of the day.  Knowing that the day after Thanksgiving is usually the biggest shopping day of the year we knew the window display needed to be changned.  So after the obligatory family stuff we headed over to the store.  About midnight we had the window re-done.  This was no easy task because this time we had to remove everything and completely change it.

Our advertising for “black friday” said we were going to have cookies and tea.  So we finally got the window done and get home.  Walking in the door my nose was not treated to the smell of sugary treats as I was expecting.  Instead the child that was to have made cookies was asleep in a chair with the TV on and there was not a single cookie made.  JOY!

My first thought was to roll up a newspaper and beat her like  a bad dog.  I suppressed the urge and turned on the stove and started to bake.  Just before 2am I had done what I figured was enough cookies and had to get some sleep.  Since I still have my day job I knew I was going to have to wake up at 7am to get to work.  I was a little late to work and the day was swamped as the day after a holiday usually is.

I guess these are just the joys of being a business owner.  Perhaps I will look back in a few years and laugh - but today I’m just to tired!
